Borinquen Gallo: Like a Jungle Orchid for a Lovestruck Bee

Artist Borinquen Gallo discusses the art from her exhibition Like a Jungle Orchid for a Lovestruck Bee at Burning in Water Gallery in New York City. Born in Rome to parents of Puerto Rican and Italian descent, Gallo relocated as an adolescent to the South Bronx, where she continues to live and maintains her studio. Gallo works extensively with found “street materials” such as plastic tarps, garbage bags and plastic caution tape. As part of the exhibition, Gallo fashioned a large-scale installation, Be(e) Sanctuary (2017). Much of the site-specific work was created in the gallery. Borinquen Gallo: Like a Jungle Orchid for a Lovestruck Bee is on view at Burning in Water gallery through November 18, 2017.
